Chapter 12
Dark Intentions
Central Precinct
Columbus, Ohio
Det. Fannichuci waved at his partner and headed for his car, he had been divorced from his wife Sandra for over two years, but still insisted on wearing his wedding ring.
Det. Fannichuci wasn't in that much of a hurry to get home but if he had any idea what was waiting on him in his house, he would never have gone home...ever!
Det. Fannichuci had a habit of being predictable all the way down to how he prepared himself for bed at night.
His nightly habit consisted of picking up takeout food from the same Italian diner, to eating in his bedroom and going outside on the patio for a smoke and then going to bed.
Since his divorce from Sandra several years earlier, Det. Fannichuci kept the bedrooms of his children, and the entire house just as Sandra had left it, believing that one day they would return, which of course was not in the cards.
Another thing which was not in the cards was what was going happen later that night.
Det. Fannichuci gathered his plate and the two empty beer bottles and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
After washing the single plate and placing it in the cabinet, Det. Fannichuci reached to turn out the light when he heard a noise over by the fireplace.
Turning on the living room lights Det. Fannichuci noticed that the family photo of himself, Sandra and his two children had slipped off the wall and lay on top of the fireplace mantle.
Det. Fannichuci stood looking at the picture and with his fingers, traced the outline of his wife's face.
Det. Fannichuci's mind began drifting back to a year ago, when his wife sat down to talk to him about the amount of time he was spending on the job verse the time he wasn't spending with his family.
If only he had heeded her words...her pleas to change, she'd never taken the children and left him.
A tear formed in his eye, and then in a fit of anger Det. Fannichuci flung the photo against the opposite wall, smashing the glass.
Standing there with his head down on the mantle, Det. Fannichuci hadn't noticed that the glass in the picture frame had slowly reassembled itself, as if it had never been smashed.
Det. Fannichuci walked over towards the steps leading upstairs and turned out the lights, and headed back upstairs not paying any attention to the mysterious dark figure which emerged from the kitchen and picked up the picture and hung it back on the wall.
One hour earlier....
Det. Fannichuci thought that this night would be like every other night, where he'd go in to the restaurant, order and flirt with the waitress Diane, but Det. Fannichuci's plans were about to be interrupted.
Instead of going in and flirting with Diane, there was another man standing at the counter talking with Diane so that Det. Fannichuci couldn't talk with her.
Det. Fannichuci shrugged off and sat at the area designed for takeout orders, when another waitress came to where he was sitting and took his order.
